Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money online.
Amazon has the oldest and trustworthy affiliate program, which earns you money if someone bought any products from your link.
Amazon is one of the most popular and trustworthy shopping sites, so if you recommend their products people tend to buy from them.
Amazon has a good mechanism of upselling, so people buy more what they actually planned. Thus, increase your income potential.
The downside of Amazon is low commission rate. They pay only 4- 6 % commission for each sale. If you make more sales, you will enroll in the higher commission level.
How to Join Amazon Affiliate Program
Amazon runs various sites in different countries (amazon.in, amazon.ca, amazon.com, etc.). So we need to join each affiliate program separately.
To join amazon.com affiliate program, click this link and sign up. Once you accepted as an affiliate, you can start promoting Amazon products on your website.
Adding Links to Your Website
Once you get accepted, you can easily add links to your website from their login area. From there, you can create your affiliate links.
Just click the “Links and Banners” button after login, and you will see three options:
1. Product links (direct links to products)
2. Banners (links to specific sections through banners)
3. Site stripe ( links to a specific amazon page)
I always use the first option because I usually mention a relevant product in my post and add a link to that specific product. If someone buys using my link, I got a commission.
The above image describes how product links work. If you need to link a product, just find that product in amazon.com. In the upper left corner, you can see ‘Get Link’ option.
There are three options like ‘Text’, ‘Image’, ‘Text+Image’. You can choose any options and immediately you will get an affiliate link. Just copy this link and paste in your content. You have done.
Amazon has thousands of eye-catching banners, but I have no luck in banner ads may be because of my niche.
You can also link to a precise page in Amazon using ‘link to this page’ option. For example, if you want to show a search result, say baby walker.
If you logged into your Amazon account, there will be a gray bar on the top of your browser that says, “link to this Page.”
Click on that link and Amazon will give you the affiliate code. Paste that code in your website, when someone clicks on that link, they will reach the same search page.
This is a nice option because your visitor can cut one step (sear and find the products) and with so many results, you can put them in a buying mood.
Many people not using the Amazon affiliate program because of low commission rate. They usually give 4% to its affiliates for each sale. That is very low compared to other affiliate program commissions. However, shipping more than 7 items earns you 6% commission.
Another drawback is its 24-hour cookie. If someone clicks on your link and buy the products after 24 hours, you don’t get any commission.
The good side of this network is, you can promote products that have no individual affiliate program. You can find at least one product for every article you have written about any niche.
Amazon sells almost all products so your sites can earn something instead of nothing at all. My Amazon earnings get better in this year, because of my new niche site.
Because of its upselling mechanism, I earned money from products that I never mentioned in my post.
Look at the snippet above . These are the miscellaneous commissions I got in June 2015 .
I don’t have a dress-related website, yet I’ve earned commissions from these dress items just because Amazon does an amazing job of upselling!
